If that’s the case, and you’re interested in a new self-improvement option, Jay Papasan’s upcoming webinar may be the perfect starting place for you.

Join Jay as he talks to best-selling author and media strategist Ryan Holiday about ways to improve your reading comprehension skills. Ryan began his career by apprenticing for the author of The 48 Laws of Power, Robert Greene. To date, Ryan is the author of three books on strategy and business: Trust Me I’m Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator, Growth Hacker Marketing and The Obstacle is the Way.

He’s also a self-proclaimed bookworm. On average, he reads about 250 books a year – and shares his recommendations each month with those people who are looking, like him, to find a book or several that will influence their life. He’s recommended over 1,000 worthy books at this point.

In our research, we’ve found that reading is a foundational hobby with four key benefits beyond providing insight from the pages of a book. For starters, it heightens the connectivity of your brain. Research has found that reading a novel can trigger actual, measurable changes in the brain, similar to muscle memory, that have a lasting influence by enabling you to believe you are doing something you are not—but have read about—for days after putting the book down. Second, reading is also essential in childhood development, as it is considered to be the most fundamental access skill for learning everything from history to mathematics. It’s far harder to learn how to tackle that math problem if your child can’t read the textbook. Third, books can help you to relax. A study by Mindlab International found that reading for as little as 6 minutes could reduce stress by 68 percent more than listening to music or going for a walk. Last, reading is exercise for your brain, which helps keep it in better working condition as you age. A study conducted by the Rush University Medical Centre in Chicago found that those people over 55 who read, wrote, and engaged in other activities linked to memory stimulation experienced a 15 percent reduction in memory loss.

Reading and interacting with a book and internalizing the content is a skill that is actually far more important than it gets credit for. When you find a book with a message that stays with you for long time, the result can be life-changing. Reading and truly understanding an the author’s message can influence your knowledge and your behavior across every facet of life. With so many books collectively written and read between these two best-selling authors, it’s no surprise that using reading as a way to invest in yourself is great fodder for them to discuss through an open webinar.
