When Nothing is Certain, Anything is Possible

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

What we can do when we don’t know what to do.

If you feel like the rug was pulled out from under you this week, you’re far from alone.

Many people are working from home. Kids are out of school. Businesses are taking a hit. Family vacations are canceled.

If the experiences of our Living Your ONE Thing Community are any indication, priorities have moved from “How can I meet my goals?” to “How can I focus for even a moment?”

We don’t have all the answers to that question. What we do know is that the tools we use when we’re at our best can still help us in times of uncertainty, and we want to encourage you with a few of them today.

Stay Curious to Gain Clarity

The world may look different today, but the Focusing Question remains. What’s the ONE Thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?

There is a possibility that the answer to that question has changed, or if the answer is the same, the path to it is unclear. That’s okay. Use the change in your environment to define new boundaries for your time and set new goals for yourself and your company.

Lean On Community, Practice Counterbalance

We may be social distancing, but that’s no reason we can’t be together in word and in spirit. Connect with your ONE Thing community online for encouragement and advice. Set consistent times away from your work to have fun with your kids. Make a plan with your spouse or significant other to hold each other accountable to good habits, even amidst uncertainty.

When you go on a journey to secure strong habits together, you’ll find that tracking that ONE small thing can relieve stress about the things that are out of your control.

Our team is here to support you. If you have questions, are feeling overwhelmed, or just want a ONE Thing perspective, email us at mastery@the1thing.com. Have specific questions about forming new habits in your new environment? Emailhabits@the1thing.com where we can help you choose the right habit.

Finally, stay tuned for information on ONE Thing virtual events. We’re kicking it off next Wednesday, March 25th at 3PM CT with a webinar about how you pivot to your new one thing. Our intent is to explore new ways to provide support in the coming weeks and look forward to sharing what we’ve got in the works!

Onward,

Geoff and The ONE Thing Team
